[Post 039] Video/Action for Saffron City and Route 7 [Backdated to 30th of May]

[The feed opens up to the outskirts of Saffron City just before Route 7 sometime in the mid-afternoon. It's a picturesque scene: green, summer-lush trees, well-combed grass, and a herd of multi-seasonal Deerling dotting the scope of the camera. The focus of the shot shifts after a couple of seconds to show one autumn-form Deerling in particular that is eating out of the palm of France's hand.]

[In the background, however, unnoticed for the moment by France, there is dust rising, and those watching the 'Gear might pick up the beginnings of static noise as a number of stampeding Blitzles careen towards France's back.]

[France grins at the 'Gear, voice cheerful and boastful although increasingly distorted by the static noise.]

This is Bénézet, the newest addition to my team! Isn't he a lovely and unique specimen among these cre...

[At this point, the feed's audio is far too distorted to be understandable. A moment passes where France continues speaking inaudibly before France finally notices something's up. He looks away from the 'Gear, which subsequently shifts the focus off-center to give a view of France's shoulder, the sky, and a rising cloud of dust before there's a blare of static and the feed abruptly cuts out.]

_{[Cooper doesn't see the change in France, at first, as he's looking away, focused on something distant. A memory, probably, or maybe a feeling, what-ifs and could've-should've-would've, before he focuses on the screen again and stops at the look on France's face.]

[He doesn't think he's seen that look on his friend before. It makes him reconsider something - not telling him, because he doesn't regret it, not really - but about France, maybe. Coop always knew he had a much deeper side to him than what meets the eye, but this seems different from that. Older.]

[Then again, maybe the story warrants it. He blinks when the question reaches him and the way his gaze flicks away, just for a second, means "no". It's defeat. And he looks it, uncertain in the face of this very personal, very real danger.]

[He never beat Windom at his games before. Not a single time. And he has a hard time seeing why this time would be any different.]}

I'm trying. Truth is, I really don't know.

[France nods slowly. He doesn't speak immediately, instead reaching up and absentmindedly tucking his hair behind his ear and then untucking it as he threads his fingers through to the ends. He lets his hand drop back down to his side, his head dipping forward slightly.]

You give it your best.

[He smiles, and it's a sad, sympathetic expression.]

There are times when it's impossible to know.

_{[He bows his head forwards a little in subconscious mimicry as well as what could be a nod. He knows it. Further into his mind there are still the otherworldly words of wisdom - "Don't search for all the answers at once". He tries. He might even have one of the most important answers right now, but it doesn't make him feel a lot better.]

[That has to do with what he hasn't yet said, but it's in part because he's not sure he understands it.]

[So instead, there's some silence. Again. But it's a companionable one, and despite how tired and worn Cooper looks, he feels a little better.]

[He's still frightened. Worried. And while he's not calmed by having shared all this, there is something nice about knowing that he can probably bring it up again if he needs to. Without having to explain one more time, or without having to hide it.]

[He sighs, a slow exhale.]}

I know. Sometimes, that is a comfort. Not in this.

_{[He still doesn't know if Windom is here or not. He thinks it's unlikely, but the fear that he just might be is eating at him.]}

[ Lust is already charging her way out of the Radio station when the transmission ends. She's dressed in a more sportier attire. And, by that, I mean she's in black slacks and a top with ruffles on it. Stay classy girl! She charges her way towards France's location with her pokemon in tow. ]

You need any assistance there? [ If your ass got harmed she'll never hear the end of it towards France. ]

[Envy's not sure what to say to that at first, so he squeezes France's hand, leaning closer against him and tilting his head a little to better rest against France's.]

There's a lot to be frustrated about, yeah.

[Especially after yet another lost three days, and all the vague and disturbing dreams that came with that.]

Is it really everything but that? [It's not a demand for justification, just a question. He can definitely sympathize.]

No.

[Edging towards sullen.]

They could have.

[There's a beat of silence, consisting of France both pouting and looking at Killua suspiciously. It's not one of his best looks.]

You're an imp.

[He says it like it's a revelation.]

But they didn't, so what are you whining for?

_{[Oh man it's way too delightful to push at this guy. No wonder they have a hard time with each other.]}

Thanks, that's one of the nicer things I've been called.

[He's messed up kid, he's fully aware of it.]

[France approves of her fashion choices always, but this is a good look on her! France himself doesn't look so well put together at the moment. He's sitting next to a ledge, hair mussed and a smudge of dirt on his face, expression somewhat flushed from embarrassment as he tries to smile.]

I'm fine. It was just a matter of elementary strategy to outrun them.

Oh, yeah, they sure do wonders! Didn't have them back in Spain and now I can't imagine how we survived there without them..

Anyway, good to see you aren't hurt.

[France nods again, not adding anything immediately. He fiddles with something off-screen for a moment, not actually looking at it or Cooper but rather at a spot near to Cooper's shoulder on the screen. His expression is as faraway as his tone was earlier, a combination of contemplative and disconnected.]

[After a long moment, he refocuses on Cooper. He smiles again, less sad than before but just as sympathetic. There's an air of kinship to about him, too.]

Comfort in such things only comes after one reaches some sort of closure.

[France breathes out, an almost laugh that remains unformed.]

I've never been lucky in that.

[France runs his hand over his face, scrubbing at some of the dirt he feels there.]

It's just -

[He stops, gashing his teeth, his head tipping forward so that when he continues he's speaking into Envy.]

I miss my land, my people. I miss hearing my language. I always do, being here, but it's stronger somehow. It always is after these moments when we loose days and memory, and I feel so much less -

[He breaks off, his hand curled tight in his own hair, jaw working unevenly as if he can't decide what he wants to do with his voice. It's not so much that's he's at a loss for words as he has too many, and he can't decide what he wants to say first.]

I am not whining! I'm stating one of the highly possible outcomes to a less than optimal situation!

[France, just stop before the hole gets deeper.]

[France's smile becomes a littler brighter. Oh, Miguel, France has no idea how you and Tulio are friends. You're so much more charming.]

I remember now that was. It's certainly one aspect of the past I don't miss.

[His smile becomes sincere at the last part.]

Thank you! I'm very glad as well. Damage to a figure like mine is to damage priceless art.

Ah. Yes. I have noticed that humans are awfully good at running. [ And France is composed of humans so, hey, potshot right there! Whatever. If he doesn't need any aid then Lust doesn't have to give any, but he looks a bit scratched up. ]

Do you need me to get anything at the store before I return home tonight? ...You should rest. [ If Envy's boyfriend got hurt, he'd be pretty pissed off and she'd rather avert to alerting the entire place that genocidal maniacs are on the loose and in the streets of Johto. ] I'll take care of dinner. [ the things she does because of her little brother's ~*~*~romance~*~*~ ]

[Without thinking about it, Envy lifts his free hand to cover the one France has in his hair before running it through the hair on the back of his head. He's familiar with this feeling, not in quite the same way, but he has some understanding of what France is going through.]

[He's not sure if he should say anything or wait for France to continue, but there is something he feels like he has to. His voice is quiet when he does.]

This place takes so much away from us. But...[He struggles with the words for a second] to me, you could never be less.

[France blinks and then smiles gratefully. He'd completely forgotten about dinner, his usually contribution to the traveling party. Since he isn't working at a restaurant the moment, he can't simply do takeaway of the leftovers, so this is actually a very welcome offer.]

Thank you very much! If you could, would you pick up washing detergent? I'm definitely going to need to clean these clothes...

[ Lust enjoys his cooking, but she's not an awful cook in and of itself. Two centuries of taking care of Gluttony has left her as a savvy killer and an expert chef! ]

I think we might already have some in the home we're staying in, but I'll obtain some anyways. [ TO THE ROCKET LAUNDRY ROOM. ] What was chasing you anyways?

[France twitches at Envy's touch to his hand, surprised despite himself, or maybe because of himself. He breathes out roughly as Envy's hand goes to the back of his head, and he closes his eyes tightly, pressing tightly against Envy, almost like France is trying to curl into him. When he finally speaks, it's in a tone so low and breathy it's nearly inaudible. At the same time, there's an intensity to it, like even if he shouted, it would mean just as much.]

[France shrugs, his lips pursed in a way that would be haughtily distasteful in most settings but really just looks like a sulky pout here.]

Some kind of electric horse. I guess they migrate in herds.

[Universal rule of the universe.]

[France shifts the 'Gear to Bénézet, who is lying idly at France's side, calm and unharmed.]

He's Bénézet. He's quite well as you can see. He might have a career in racing!

An electric horse pokemon? I can't say I've heard about that. Were there many? Did you see them?

[ France you encounter the strangest things wtf ]

Wow, he's really cute... I assume he outran the Blitzles pretty well.
