[Post 043] Video/Text for S.S. Anne en Route to Vermilion City

[The scene opens up to a grand view of the ocean, white foam from the light waves in the surf. After about half a minute of general ocean scenery, the 'Gear's camera shifts to reveal France and Envy wearing aviator sunglasses and puffy winter jackets with Mai Tais in hand. The wind is blowing steadily, whipping their hair about and staining their cheeks read with the cold.]

[France raises his cocktail in a toast, grinning lopsidedly.]

More people need to take this cruise! It's comfortable and the liquor is good!

[He pauses.]

The only thing is that there's too many locals here for it to be truly enjoyable...

[Envy snorts, looking half-amused.]

They don't get any less battle crazy out at sea.

[France huffs, rolling his eyes.]

I came here to relax, not get jumped every ten minutes! All these random people just burst into your room, no announcement or anything, regardless of what you're doing and demand to see your best pokemon!

[Envy shrugs, moving the hand not occupied with his drink flippantly.]

I don't think any of the locals have ever actually heard of knocking.

[France laughs merrily, shaking his head ruefully. He makes as if to say something else, obviously jovial, but a loud, boisterousness voice from somewhere off camera but coming closer.]

HEY, YOU! Let me show you my AWESOME Tentacool!

[France's and Envy's expressions before the video abruptly cuts out are clearly, even with the sunglasses, exasperated.]

How are you holding up? Would you like anything from the cruise?

That we are! All we could want is a little bit more alone time. You would think no one here has ever heard of the notion of "romantic getaway"! ;)

yeah we're having fun, this boat has everything

I don't think any of the sailors on this boat actually do any work though. just pokemon battles.

a lot more fun than getting lost in caves

besides, it's not like most of the battles take very long to win.

i've been meaning to take to the magnet train to head to saffron some time
but i'm waiting for a friend here

I do hope you get to go on the Magnet Train. It's one of the few things here I've actively enjoyed.

A friend of ours was so generous to buy us tickets for Christmas! I'm not 100% sure how he manage it.

no trouble at all. and the ones that are a challenge are more fun than annoying.

[With the 'Gear off, Envy takes another sip of his drink before setting it down on the counter and making to stand up.]

I can handle this one.

[There's a confident, challenging smirk spreading across his face. He can't say he really, truly minds all the trainers on the ship (although he certainly wouldn't complain if they quit demanding battles every five minutes), because beating up on the weaker ones is fantastic stress relief.]

We'll be on here for about a week with all of the scenic stops. The weather is a bit chilly, but there's a lot of indoor activities to keep us occupied. ;)

[France makes an elegantly vague motion with his free hand, settling back against the ship's railing and grinning lopsidedly as he looks between Envy and the Sailor. This should be a nice exhibition if nothing else.]

I shall! We've passed by some small islands that haven't recently suffered volcanic eruptions. I'm guessing that in the warmer months, the whole outdoors is much more picturesque.

[I will keep that in mind, muhahaha]

wasn't there a major island that was basically destroyed by one?
is it nearby where the cruise is heading?

my country's landlocked, so there's no oceans for a cruise to sail on. I guess there might be something like it in other countries, but I don't travel abroad too much.

[Not in a long, long time anyway. Too busy causing trouble closer to home.]

a friend of ours got them for us for christmas, him and one of our other friends.

[And the mention of said other friend makes Envy glad this is text. He's still pretty sad about that disappearance, even if he's not showing it.]

sounds the opposite than where i came from
my country's basically an island surrounded by the ocean
i remember traveling to a small island off the mainland as a young girl on numerous of occasions
but my family stopped after an incident there

I wouldn't mind at all if they are like Okinawa. It would be nice to see something similar to my world even if it isn't something that is mine.

Yes, that would be Cinnabar Island. I don't think we'll be stopping there, but, if we do, I have no attention of going there again. I'll just stay on the ship.

[Envy gives France a quick, confident grin over his shoulder as he walks forward, pulling a Pokeball off his belt.]

I hope you're ready, kid, we Sailors are serious about battling!

I'm sure you are, so let's get started already.

[And with that, the Pokeballs are thrown and the Pokemon inside are revealed. On the Sailor's side, there's the Tentacool he's so eager to show off, and on Envy's side…]

[Well, on Envy's side there's Izumi. The Tropius is having a great time with all of these battles going on, and she flaps her way up into the air to circle and size up her opponent immediately. Envy doesn't call out any orders; she wouldn't listen to them anyway. He just stands there, arms crossed smugly, as the Tentacool only manages to fire off a single Poison Sting--that does very little--before Izumi's Leaf Blade K.O.s it.]

Yeah, real serious about battling.

[The Sailor frowns, recalling his fainted Pokemon, but then lets out a booming laugh. And walks over to give Envy a friendly slap on the back, hard enough that he staggers.]

You're a better trainer than you look! That's what I get for underestimating you. I'll see the both of you around!

[And with that, he gives them a wave goodbye and walks off, presumeably to heal his Pokemon and even do some actual work, leaving an incredibly confused Envy behind.]

I'm... sure they are. They probably want to stay with their kin so you better leave them. Oh that is very kind of you. I look forward to it (:

[France settles back onto one of the many lounging chairs out on the deck even though the winter weather doesn't allow much for sunbathing, kicking up his feet even though he knows it'll be a relatively short battle. In his esteemed opinion, no sense in not getting comfortable when comfort can be had.]

[When the battle is clearly over, France sits up full again to clap but pauses halfway through the motion when the Sailor starts to approach Envy. Unsure of the Sailor's intention, France starts to get up, opening his mouth with the intention to warn the man off and then scowling when the Sailor's hand comes down on Envy's back.]

Hey -

[France's growing irritation is, luckily abruptly derailed by the Sailor's words. He stops, half-standing, and stares after the Sailor blankly for a long moment before drawing himself up and moving to stand next to Envy again.]

What an odd person...

[He shakes himself slightly, disregarding the Sailor to pay full attention to Envy, and smiles widely.]

An impressive performance as always.

was it a big island? being surrounded by the ocean sounds nice, but I don't know if I'd want to live on a small one.

and yeah, they're good friends. known them almost the whole time I've been here.

[He'll be okay, it's been long enough that Envy doesn't mind talking about him.]

nah, and we can beat most of them so fast it's like they aren't even there.

[A few minutes later, a second message goes out.]

and thanks. this was a really good present.

[No dodging around saying it for once! He's really glad you're still here, Miguel.]

Yeah, really odd.

[What do you mean other people aren't always sore losers? But Envy looks very pleased with the compliment that comes after, pushing aside any lingering feelings of 'what just happened' so that he can preen. He also takes a moment to call Izumi back to her ball, as she already looks like she's picking her next battle target.]

Why, thank you. I try not to be anything less. [...although whether he always succeeds is an entirely different story. He smirks, looking playful. He really does look much, much better right now than he has the past few weeks.] Let's get back to our drinks.

really? I've heard a lot about how it's a game, but nobody's told me it looked familiar to home.

and yeah, over two years straight now. we weren't exactly friends at first though. they were friends before they got here, but I didn't start getting along with either of them for a while. made for an interesting time traveling.

I'm really happy you like it (: Now have fun and enjoy yourself.
