Need help regarding love, potential relationships, and the like? Ask here.

[A very simple premise with ulterior motives. France will, however, answer all the questions seriously because love, in his opinion, should always be taken seriously no matter how big or how small.]

Fine.

I'm in my early forties, but my physical age resembles more someone in their late seventies. I've only got a year at best to live outside of this place. I've disappointed every woman I've loved because I can't stop thinking about the battlefield. I can't lead a normal life. I met one of the women I loved recently, and she was horrified by my accelerated aging. Another started crying just from seeing how far it has progressed.

I met my surrogate mother and within the next few hours she died in my arms.

I don't believe in fate or destiny, but if I did, I'm pretty sure it's telling me to stop looking for love in any form, because I'll be a dead man soon enough anyway.

Let me break this down. Please tell me if I have understood anything wrong.

You are a soldier, and you have seen a lot of combat. Due to your physical condition, you have both a limited amount of time and some physical limitations. Those you have been with in the past are negatively affected by these factors. You yourself have suffered a great deal of tragedy, and all of this together makes you more than a little apprehensive of pursuing love at this time.

Is this correct?

More or less.

I know what it's like to feel out of time as your age and form moves further and further from those around you. The thing is no one wants to be alone, not truly and especially not as they feel themselves approaching their twilight. If you are feeling isolated, you're not. Your experience is, of course, unique, but there is something that you want despite everything that has and is happening. You want love and the feeling of closeness that comes with it or you wouldn't be talking to me.

Obviously, I'm here to tell you that love is possible and you are worth it, but I am not going to lie and say it isn't difficult. While this place seems to freeze our aging and heal physical wounds, it doesn't cure people of being people. But love is possible and worth it here as anywhere else, and it doesn't do anyone good to completely close themselves to it. You need to be willing to open yourself up, even if it means getting hurt.

There's no one here for me. Most of them are kids, or men.

Besides, I just look like everyone's grandfather.

There is a distinct difference in physical age between the few physically older people from other worlds I've met and the majority of us. It does make looking for relationships beyond friendship difficult.

[France counts himself lucky for having found Envy, who can himself understand the trouble of not actually having a physical age, not in the same way as a biological being.]

Since this is a factor that neither of us can control, the best advice I can give is based entirely in possibility: keep looking and remain open to whatever comes.

Doesn't seem right or fair to have to bring someone else down with me. What's the point of getting together with a dead guy? Time may be frozen here, but it's not for me back home.

Unless I misunderstood you earlier, you are not dead yet. It is not wrong or unfair to desire, seek, or have love while you are still alive. People will mourn you regardless, and it is their choice to give and return your love. It is not selfish.

I'm not sure I believe that. I think I gave up on love a while ago.

But that does beg to question: if you had given up on love completely, why are you talking to me? You haven't given up. You don't have to give up.

I guess I was curious if you could even find an answer for someone like me. I was pretty sure I was a lost cause.

You're not a lost cause. I don't have a concrete answer, but love doesn't give to definitive answers. In the end, it is up to you.

If it were up to me, I'd want to live longer to find love.
