[The 'Gear comes on to catch the final moments of a light brown and white egg's existence before the minutely-cracked shell suddenly explodes the glittery light of a hatching -]

[France's squeal is extremely loud and he appears on the screen, obviously handing off the 'Gear to one of his pokemon; by the off-the-ground angle, it's probably either Kai or Drifblim. France is all ready with a towel, but there's no residue like traditional egg hatchings, so he just scoops up the tiny Eevee, cooing at a pitch that can probably only be heard by very young children, bats, and small dogs. The Eevee seems to automatically adore France, yipping and barking happily in response to his voice.]

[It takes a minute or five, but France eventually remembers that the 'Gear is on. France turns back to it, showing off his newest pokemon quite proudly.]

I've decided to name her Thérèse. She and Marianne--yes, Marianne, you can come over here now.

[And, instead of the Vulpix most people are probably used to seeing either following France faithfully or attacking wild pokemon that dare to come within her jumping range, a sleek and regal-looking Ninetales makes her way onto the screen to examine this... new addition. She seems rather torn on whether or not Thérèse is a good thing or not. France, as usual, is totally oblivious, and the feed closes off with Thérèse and Marianne staring at each other intently.]

[France stomps his foot.]

This is all his fault, the stupid bastard!

If it was, would he not appear before you to gloat about it? [Villains, Cecil knows them.]

You know, come to think of it, I haven't seen England in a really long time... Haven't heard from him since when I first got here, actually.

Not even on the network? That's... generally a bad sign. You should try calling him, just in case.

Hold on.

[France disconnects briefly from Cecil, tries England on the network... and gets an error message. It's a couple minutes later when he calls Cecil back, looking decidedly upset.]

He's not here.

[He blinks hard, looking angry but not sounding entirely so.]

How dare he leave me here?!

...He might not have had a choice. People are taken in their sleep, sometimes. Or at times when they cannot fight back.

[France sniffles, obviously trying not to cry and not doing a very good job of it.]

But... then they can take anyone at any moment, and there's nothing we can do about it.

I don't like feeling helpless like this.

Yet. There is nothing we can do about it yet. But if we manage to find out why we are here... If we manage to find out why... We might be able to control who comes and goes and when it happens. One day, we will not have to be helpless anymore.

[France is still cry, but he's listening to Cecil. For some reason, he believes Cecil, and he nods, still sniffling miserably.]

I hope so...

And if he comes back, you can always yell at him for making you worry.

[A dark look crosses over France's face momentarily.]

Oh, I will. I definitely will.

[He sighs, shaking his head.]

I wish this world was a little bit more stable sometimes.

But if it were more stable, perhaps no one else would be able to come. Perhaps no one else would be able to leave.

[France gazes at Cecil, horrified.]

We'd be stuck here forever.

Oh, God...

[He slumps forward, face in his hands.]

We cannot stop the cycle without risking that. However, if we could control it, or at least predict it...

[France doesn't look up, speaking into his hands.]

Predicting it would be nice. We would have to find the Devil in order to control things and that would be scary...

In my experience, the leader of a group is rarely the one who does all the work. There must be subordinates involved, who would be the ones actually controlling the flow of arrivals and departures.

But the leader usually holds all of the key information as well as access codes and knowledge of other facilities. Finding the leader is the most direct route, but obtaining information from subordinates is safer, although their knowledge is not guaranteed to be correct.

We'd have to find important subordinates, preferably those holding management positions. They'd be a good compromise.

[France sits up slowly.]

We would have to be sure of who is "important" and who is not; going around kidnapping people has to be well-planned or it'll totally backfire on us.

We'd have to be sure of who is responsible, period. I've not yet found any leads. Yourself?

Someone I know suggested Team Rocket, but the only thing I've seen them do is pretty much individuals working on their own; they don't seem organized enough to put together something this large scale.

Did that person explain why they suggested them? The first arrivals were months before us. They might have seen something we missed.

[France shakes his head.]

He didn't specify. I personally think it's a good lead, but there isn't substantial evidence to work off of. Have you heard anything on that group?

[He shakes his head.] Their outworlder new recruits show up in Mahogany, but that's all I know.
