[The 'Gear comes on to catch the final moments of a light brown and white egg's existence before the minutely-cracked shell suddenly explodes the glittery light of a hatching -]

[France's squeal is extremely loud and he appears on the screen, obviously handing off the 'Gear to one of his pokemon; by the off-the-ground angle, it's probably either Kai or Drifblim. France is all ready with a towel, but there's no residue like traditional egg hatchings, so he just scoops up the tiny Eevee, cooing at a pitch that can probably only be heard by very young children, bats, and small dogs. The Eevee seems to automatically adore France, yipping and barking happily in response to his voice.]

[It takes a minute or five, but France eventually remembers that the 'Gear is on. France turns back to it, showing off his newest pokemon quite proudly.]

I've decided to name her Thérèse. She and Marianne--yes, Marianne, you can come over here now.

[And, instead of the Vulpix most people are probably used to seeing either following France faithfully or attacking wild pokemon that dare to come within her jumping range, a sleek and regal-looking Ninetales makes her way onto the screen to examine this... new addition. She seems rather torn on whether or not Thérèse is a good thing or not. France, as usual, is totally oblivious, and the feed closes off with Thérèse and Marianne staring at each other intently.]

{Nanao swallows hard, and her hands scrunch into her blanket}

Thank you. When I was just a child, I was... Uncontrollable. My spiritual energy was great, and powerful - and I was just a child, and so I was unable to control it.

That kind of energy attracts Hollows - malevolent spirits, who attack and consume other souls for sustenance. And I was just a small girl; defenceless, apart from the sheer size of my, well, aura. It caused tornadoes whenever I became too distressed - a defence mechanism, I suppose.

Of course, that kind of power in the Rukongai is a cause for concern among the Shinigami in Seireitei, and so they sent a Captain to investigate. Specifically, they sent Kyouraku Shunsui, one of the eldest Shinigami in all Seireitei.

{She stops to draw breath - she's never told anyone this.}

I thought he was an angel - and I know it sounds stupid, but I was a child, tiny and alone and then he came along, and I wasn't alone anymore, and I think I then equated 'him' with safety and warmth, and love...

I haven't left the Division since.

[France's expression is one of sincere gentleness.]

I'm sorry I'm not there with you, and that you're telling me something so important over the 'Gear. I would hug you right now if I could.

[He pauses, mulling over the story.]

It sounds like you really love him. Not just in a romantic sense but also as someone who is a permanent fixture in you life. You love him despite his faults and the frustration he causes you nowadays.

{Her expression is one of utter gratitude - she'd half-expected that he'd express some other emotion - but acceptence, now that was precious.}

I - thank you, France. Maybe when I catch up to you - I'll, I'll call in that favour.

She's quiet as he says what he feels, before sitting there for a few more moments.}

He's just always there, and it's hard, here, without him... You're right, I guess. I think it just took another's perspective for me to realise it.

[France smiles gently.]

I'm alway available for hugs.

[He reaches up and tucks a lock of hair behind his ear absentmindedly.]

That's the most difficult things about this place. We're given only the basics and expected to run with them without support systems or any familiarity.

{Soft smile}

Thank you. I can - I can't express my thanks enough - I should calm down.

{A pause}

It reminds me of a rather sadistic test designed for Officer candidates, somewhat; after all, it only ran for five days, and I've been here for five weeks. And I was familiar with everything, back in the Spiritual Realm.

You're fine. Don't worry.

[France laughs slightly, a rueful expression on his face.]

Traveling here sometimes reminds me of when I spent weeks or months on foot for war campaigns. Luckily, I've managed not to be out for too long, but at least I'm not completely rusty on traveling day after day.

Y-yes.

At least we are not traveling solo - we do, after all, have our Pokemon, which certainly is a blessing.
