[Post 017] Video/Action for Goldenrod City

[There's rather self-satisfied laughter just off-screen as the 'Gear comes on. It reveals two Ninetales, both with their tails facing the camera. The giggling follows the camera as it goes around and reveals one very cross-looking Marianne and... a derp-face Marianne?]

Change back, Martin. I'm trying to show you off!

[The derp-face Ninetales makes a very un-Ninetales sound, and, after a shimmer of mysterious light, a very pink, very pleased-looking Ditto appears!]

[France makes a cooing sound before the 'Gear is turned to face him. He looks so pleased with himself.]

Isn't he adorable? He will be a perfect French gentleman in no time!

I know. I was not expecting grandchildren for a few more years, but then there was Lydia's youthful indiscretion.

Only a few? You can't be much older than my body appears to be. My identification back in my world puts me at about twenty-six.

[France, you have just made his day.]

Counting the time I've spent in Johto, I'd be thirty-eight. My son turned seventeen a few months before I arrived.

[France just stares. He doesn't say anything for a second before shaking his head in disbelief.]

You look nowhere near thirty. You've aged extremely well.

That's extremely lucky. Most people I've met have a hard time hiding their age after their early thirties.

Most of the people I know do not have that problem. Rosa still looks as lovely as she did on the day of our wedding, and you could take at least five years off Kain's, Edward's, Edge's and Yang's age. [And he's not even kidding.] Rydia's age is more complicated, but she still looks young and lovely.

[France sighs wistfully.]

Perhaps your land is imbued with the waters of the Fountain of Youth. People must be beautiful there on the whole.

[Cue Cecil remembering tutors! Soldiers! Random people! Zemus!]

...I apologize for ruining your idyllic image, but that is far, far from true. [A beat.] Though Troia does have a surprisingly high number of beautiful ladies. And a surprisingly high nuber of ladies, in fact.

[France does look rather disappointed, but he latches onto this Troia place.]

Why such a high number there and not elsewhere? What sort of ladies are they?

All of Troia's Epopts are women, and so are their soldiers and high-placed citizens. But I know not if that is because of the low number of men, or if the birthrates somehow adapted themselves to their society.

[France just looks confused.]

Epopts? What are Epopts?

Their council of leaders. There are eight of them, always women.

A matriarchal society, then! That must be very interesting. What's it like there?

The land itself is extremely beautiful, with forests and rivers covering the country. It is renowned for its chocobo nursery and its pub, both of which are worth a visit or five. It is a popular travel destination, especially with men.

[France's lips quirk at the "especially with men" comment.]

I can imagine.

What's a chocobo nursery?

[His lips would probably quirk more if he knew the pub was also more or less a brothel and a stripper joint.]

A farm where they raise black chocobos as pets. Usually chocobos are yellow, and the black variety can only be found in that region. That makes them popular with pet owners.

[Yes, they certainly would.]

So they're just pets? What exactly are chocobos? I feel like I've talked to someone briefly about them before, but I can't remember...

Chocobos are large yellow birds that can be used as mounts. The black ones can also fly, at least in the wild; those bred in captivity are unable to do so. They look somewhat like the Pokémon Doduo, but without the extra head.

[France blinks, eyes becoming a bit wider.]

So then they're rather large birds. Like ostriches my world, but stronger and domesticated, I'd guess. How strange...

They are extremely strong birds, too. They can pull carriages and transport more than one rider at a time.

Do you have horses in your world? That's part of what they were originally used for in mine.

Horses are more mystical in nature. The only one I've seen is part of the Eidolon Odin; there are also monsters named centaurs, but they're not quite fully horses.

Horses are extremely commonplace where I'm from; always have been at least since I was quite young. I've never actually seen a centaur, although they were supposed to exist in mythology.

Consider yourself lucky. Perhaps yours would be different, but the centaurs from my world are monsters that prey on humans.
