francia | [Post 040] Video/Action for Saffron City

[The 'Gear appears to be broadcasting a very summery flower arrangement atop a table situated carefully and pleasingly in front of a window. It appears to be early afternoon, so the daylight illuminates the set-up rather nicely, casting a small shadow. It looks, for all intents and purposes, like the front of a pretty boring greeting card.]

[From France's expression as he switches the focus of the 'Gear back to himself, he certainly doesn't look entirely thrilled himself.]

Back at Christmas, a friend of mine was so kind as to gift me with painting supplies. I am a highly accomplished painter, and this -

[He waves his hand at the still-life set up with a half-exasperated, half-pained expression.]

I could paint something like this in my sleep. I have, in fact, done so.

[He sighs dramatically before straightening up and making a flourishing motion to indicate Marianne, who is, for once, doing nothing more innocuous as lying contentedly in the path of the sunbeam.]

So, the question I want to pose to you is this: where could I find a more majestic setting to properly capture her and my other pokemon's beauty?

I'm not currently close to the beach, and that is always a wonderful setting. A battle, on the other hand! That I can envision!

[He grins widely, showing a bit more teeth than usual.]

Now who should I spectacularly crush....?

It has to be a strong opponent. You can't like, do some weak dweeb because that wouldn't give the best bamf to the painting!

[France nods in agreement.]

It will take some time to find a worthy opponent. None of the local trainers are a challenge at all these days.

[He rubs his chin.]

I suppose I could try for the local gym...

Gym leader battle could be good. They normally have cool designs in their gyms too, so.

I believe the local gym leader uses Psychic types primarily, and those are nearly interesting at least. The only problem will be finding a proper angle to record the battle from to best capture the moment of victory.

Can't you get someone to film it for you? Man if I was there I'd do it for you!

[France blinks before a pleased, merry laugh escapes him.]

Of course! Why didn't I think of that? I could probably ask Envy to film it...

[He smiles at Gilbert, rather fondly.]

Thank you for the offer. You should come meet up with us after you get to Goldenrod. There's a train there that comes to Saffron on a daily basis.

Yeah, I should get a move on, huh? I'm in Violet City right now. I'm training my Pokemon, and I got a Growlithe egg that I'm trying to hatch...oh! I'm also trying to catch a Mareep, so, ehe, I've been a bit busy...

Out of curiosity, where did you get the Growlithe egg?

Oh! Someone was selling them, and they shipped it to the PokeMart. It only cost me five hundred, uh, PokeDollars? Whatever the currency is.

Five hundred pokedollars isn't a bad price. I do wish they had a more inventive name than that, though; it's rather boring. Do you have any idea what you're going to name your Growlithe?

[Gilbert looks a little mischievous here]

I'm gonna call him Lutz.

[France's lips quirk, returning that mischievousness with amusement.]

I'm guessing you have great expectations for this one.

Perhaps we can train together. I doubt you'll be able to hold your own against my team, but hard work does count for something.

Hey~ my team's great! Besides, you had a head start from me...oh! Dandelion now knows an attack move, by the way! But Soren still fights with her in battle anyway. Those two are awfully close...

I usually like to train my pokemon in pairs. It improves their relationships with each other, even though they already get along so well.

Dandelion is your Hoppip, right? I do apologize, but I'm not sure which of your pokemon is Soren?

Soren's the pidgey. My entire team is so awesome right now, y'know, although I wonder if I should put some variation in it...I mean, aside from my future Growlithe and Gilbird, they're all flying-types.

Ah, yes, I'll remember from now on.

I wouldn't worry too much about variety just yet. Many pokemon take on a secondary type when they evolve, and there are a lot of pokemon to choose from otherwise.

Hmm...it's a shame you can only have six Pokemon on you, though...

[He didn't want to put any of his friends in a Computer Box! He would be happy if they all stayed with him, but he supposed it would be hard to keep track of something like, twelve Pokemon at once]

It really is. I don't see why we can't. I suppose it has to do with space in most of the towns and maybe whatever little concern there is around here for public safety.

[Does France sound like he's scoffing? Yes. Yes, he very much does.]

Yeah, I gues... I wonder if I can go buy a place with a big back garden and just let all of my friends run around in it nice an' free.

It is possible to purchase a house in some of the major cities in Johto and Kanto. I personally have no reason to as none of the cities are entirely to my tastes.

Eh, I was thinking more in the countryside than the city.

I'm not sure if you would be able to purchase land outside of the city. I've never looked into it, and there's very little information on zoning and property laws in this place. I don't even know if they exist. It's such a strange mix of technological advancement and primitiveness here.

Well, I saw two houses on my way to Violet City that were in the middle of bumfuck nowhere. So maybe it's, like...you have to build the house yourself and make sure you're not messing with any kind of ecosystem?

[France shrugs.]

Perhaps. It seems like an awful lot of trouble to me. You'd probably have to constantly deal with the wild pokemon, too.
