I had... a very strange dream...

The calendar says that three days have gone by. My left leg buckled when I tried to get up today, and my head feels like I've been hit with a sledgehammer.

Have I been ill?

When I woke, I... I thought...

I thought I could smell lilies...

[The 'Gear comes on to show Marianne's fuzzy red face. She looks worried, at least from the downturn of her dark eyes, before picking up the 'Gear. She brings it to an angle that captures France, who is lying in his bed in the Violet City Pokemon Center, staring listlessly at the ceiling. This is all the 'Gear picks up for a good few minutes before France turns his head slowly to the side, gazing with the same apathetic expression at Marianne and the 'Gear.]

Marianne...

[France sighs and sits up, a hand going briefly to the left side of his head and eyes fluttering as if the movement has made him dizzy. He reaches out and beckons Marianne over. The camera briefly catches France's two adopted Drifblims, Kai and Drifblim, and David hovering around the foot of the bed before it's switched off.]

Oh...was Jeanne, um...someone you loved?

She...

[He pauses, trying to find the right words.]

She was more light and love than I could ever hope to be. She was... pure... It is only natural that I loved her.

[] I knew someone like that. He was good and kind to everyone, and always protected anything weaker than him. Everyone loved him and he loved everyone in return.

[France smiles, although it's still rather sad.]

Sometimes I wonder what I did to deserve her. I certainly didn't, in the end, and she didn't even hate me after all of that.

People like that... They're too good for this world.

Sometimes, fate allows us to meet someone who loves and accepts what we are, even if we've got a lot of flaws. Since she truly loved you, then of course she wouldn't hate you for making mistakes. Mytho...he had to go back to the story he came from after we saved Goldkrone, and he decided to make Rue his princess. I don't know if I'll see him or Rue again, but....I know he's where he's supposed to be now, and so if Rue.

[] I'm sure we'll both meet other people that will accept and care for us. You've already made lots of friends here, right?

[France tilts his head slightly, listening. He's not entirely sure if he follows everything that Ahiru is talking about, but he understands the sentiments expressed. France nods, slowly, offering a small but sincere smile.]

There are many people who pass and cross our lives here and in other places. At least that is one thing to look forward to even after death: meeting new people. It keeps me going, at least.

Do...do you really think this is the afterlife? [] Ms Puzzlette said that we would go back to the moment we came from but if we're dead...then my friend, he's all alone now.

[France ponders this for a moment before sighing, shoulders slumping.]

I'm pretty sure that I'm dead. I don't really know about everyone else, since no one seems to remember why they're here. But... there is very little explanation for why I don't have awareness of my people and land anymore...

[] I don't know if this could possibly apply here, but before I came here, I was in a story, but I wasn't always a part of it. The writer brought me in because he thought it would be fun...at least that's what he told me. I thought maybe this world is a little like that. [] I mean, that someone brought us here to make a story. And then, when the story finishes, we'll all go home and back to our old selves.

[France gives Ahiru an extremely curious look.]

So you're a storybook character? What was the title of the story you were in?

[He nods, slowly.]

In my world, there are a series of games centered around Pokemon. I only played the first in the series, mostly on the Metro to and from work, so I remember them too well. The thing is... it's the kind of video game that doesn't really have a set ending. You could play it forever, if you wanted to.

U-um well, it's called Prince and the Raven, and it was an unfinished story because the writer died before he finished, but since he could make what he wrote come true, he wrote that he could keep making stories after he died, and then the characters came out of the book, and the writer found me and turned me into a girl a-and asked if I wanted to take the role of Princess Tutu, and I did because I wanted to help Mytho. I-I'm not really a storybook character, I just took a role in a story because it came to life in Goldkrone.

[France listens carefully, obviously very interested.]

I have to admit that I'm not familiar with the story... So, you're a princess where you're from? What sort of creature were you before?

U-um I'm not really a princess at all, I became one to help Mytho smile again and I'm just... [] ...I'm just a duck. I couldn't talk or do anything like that, but I still liked dancing.

A duck?

[France shrugs and still smiles. Oh, well, odder things have happened.]

A dancing princess... Ah, those are the most lovely.

[He winks playfully at her.]

[] You...you don't think that's weird?

I-I'm still a beginner but I've been practicing when I can while I'm here...

In all honesty, not really. There are many stranger things in this world.

[After all, they are in Hell.]

I would love to see you dance sometime when you're ready.
