[Post 011] Video/Action in Violet City

[The 'Gear comes on to catch the final moments of a light brown and white egg's existence before the minutely-cracked shell suddenly explodes the glittery light of a hatching -]

[France's squeal is extremely loud and he appears on the screen, obviously handing off the 'Gear to one of his pokemon; by the off-the-ground angle, it's probably either Kai or Drifblim. France is all ready with a towel, but there's no residue like traditional egg hatchings, so he just scoops up the tiny Eevee, cooing at a pitch that can probably only be heard by very young children, bats, and small dogs. The Eevee seems to automatically adore France, yipping and barking happily in response to his voice.]

[It takes a minute or five, but France eventually remembers that the 'Gear is on. France turns back to it, showing off his newest pokemon quite proudly.]

I've decided to name her Thérèse. She and Marianne--yes, Marianne, you can come over here now.

[And, instead of the Vulpix most people are probably used to seeing either following France faithfully or attacking wild pokemon that dare to come within her jumping range, a sleek and regal-looking Ninetales makes her way onto the screen to examine this... new addition. She seems rather torn on whether or not Thérèse is a good thing or not. France, as usual, is totally oblivious, and the feed closes off with Thérèse and Marianne staring at each other intently.]

I've worked in Pokémarts for months, and I still do not know how the goods manage to circulate. Both Cherrygrove and Goldenrod are by the sea, and yet neither have ports. There are no land routes to speak of, and bird deliveries work fine for special orders, but certainly not for shipments.

It's absolutely befuddling. I suppose if the Devil is in charge anything is possible, there still seems to be pieces of this world the resemble economic rules. We have currency and jobs, and these cards that identify us... I don't understand how everything seems to magically work yet have rules at the same time.

This world has the ressources to give us all some money and a fully equiped bag when we arrive. It encourages us to work, though the available jobs are not varied. It offers us free healthcare, of a sort more advanced than anything I've seen before. Yet we have no taxes to pay, and we receive no help when starting up businesses. None of it makes sense.

[France rubs his eyes.]

There must be some sort of infrastructure somewhere. Someone is watching us, I know it. They know what we buy, what we eat, what we drink, when we sleep...

[He glares off to the side.]

The Devil and his minions are perverts.

...That would explain the underwear in the bags we receive.

[France blinks and gives Cecil a half-puzzled, half-curious look.]

What do you mean? I got perfectly boring white underpants.

...The supplemental clothes I received were not adapted to either my size, my tastes or even my gender. One of the undergarments matched it. [There was frilly pink lace involved.]

[France is obviously trying not to laugh.]

Do you still have it?

[He shakes his head.]

A man posted a message complaining about his lack of cute clothes, and he seemed interested in having mine. I left it for him at the Cherrygrove Pokémon Center. I've no heard from him since then, actually. He might have disappeared.

[France blinks but gives no further indication he might have been surprised. He frowns slightly.]

These disappearances seem to be pretty regular things, aren't they?

They are. Sometimes, people cannot be found for weeks before their Pokégear is disconnected, and sometimes you can go to sleep after talking to them and wake up to find them gone. At least arrivals are relatively stable.

Arrivals are about the only things that are stable. That and the existence of the pokemon.

[He squints off to the side.]

I want to know how they're watching us. I can't find any cameras other than what would be expected for normal security.

And the monthly strangeness.

A scrying spell on such a wide scale would be hard to manage, but it would be possible if a team were to work together.

[France is silent for a long time, turning over these words.]

This world is a lot bigger than it looks without regular mechanized means of transportation. People could be held anywhere, not just on the places noted on the maps...

The world itself has to be much bigger than the map shows. The Pokédex tells me that Leviathan is not native to the Johto region. There might be other outworlders, wherever she came from.

[France's expression seems borderline horrified.]

Leviathan? Like the sea monster of the Bible?

[The look of horror confuses Cecil.]

Like the King of the Eidolons. And my Feebas. [Said Leviathan is taken out and shown to the camera.] The name is perhaps too masculine for a lady, but it was the only water-related name I could think of. That, or Flood.

[France moans slightly, putting his face in his hands and speaking into them.]

There's an old story where I'm from that a great sea monster--a Leviathan--that devours souls at the Final Judgement. It must... be very different than the one you know.

I see. [One more word shared between worlds. He'll take note of that.] King Leviathan does look like a sea monster, but he is a kind, fair ruler, who raised one of my friends as his own daughter. He and Queen Asura also possess an extensive library, with books that have long been forgotten by men.

[France looks up abruptly, eyes huge.]

The Leviathan is your King?

[France moans softly, shaking his head violently. He breathes deeply for a few seconds to calm down.]

But your Leviathan isn't... mine and he's good. I don't...

[He laughs hollowly.]

This place is going to make me crazy.

Oh, he's not my king. That was Odin. [His words there were chosen very carefully.] King Leviathan's kingdom is many days away from mine, even by airship. But you are the second person who knew that name, and the first who mentioned the sea. Our worlds must have something in common, then.

[France rubs his eyes.]

I don't really understand how our different worlds are intersecting. There's a theory of parallel universes, but then why is there only one place souls go when they die...?

...Perhaps this is not the natural place where souls to go. Perhaps each world truly has their own, but...

[France frowns deeply.]

It could be possible to steal people's souls. I don't know how, but there's a lot of forces at work that we don't understand or have any inclination of suspect.

[His expressions turns ugly.]

Maybe England finally summoned the Devil with his black magic.
